Sugar Moon FAQ

How far in advance do I book my cake?
I limit the number of cakes I take in a weekend to three (some weekends only one), so the earlier you reserve your date with me the better. Typically, busier wedding months (May through October) book four to six months in advance. For other times of the year, a couple of months notice will usually be fine (though a minimum of one week is required). If you have your heart set on Sugar Moon, book it as early as possible. This allows me ample time to prepare items in advance, i.e.: royal icing decorations, cake boards, special purchases etc.

How do I save my date?
I require a $100 non-refundable deposit to hold your date – this will be applied towards the final cost of your cake. One month prior to the event I require a 50% deposit with the remainder payable two (2) weeks before your date. If you have booked with only one month (or less) to the event date, I require a 50% deposit before any work commences. The remainder is due two (2) weeks prior to your event. Failure to pay the full amount two weeks prior to your event will forfeit any monies paid up to that point and your booking will be cancelled. I accept Interac Email Transfers (through online banking), PayPal (a 5% surcharge will be added), personal cheques (certified only for final payment), money orders or plain old cash. Sorry, I'm not set up to receive credit cards. I reserve the right to change my payment policies as necessary.

Do you deliver or are we required to pick up?
I do deliver – in fact I prefer it. Within Saskatoon city limits is no charge. This allows me to set up the cake, add any fragile decorations on site and ensures your cake is picture perfect when you and your guests arrive! If you are outside of Saskatoon, delivery charges will apply. Cookies and small order cakes/cupcakes will incur a delivery charge of $25. Pick up is an option for smaller orders.

Do you offer tastings?
I don’t enjoy eating in front of strangers – do you?! To offset this awkward moment, I offer a tasting package of Sugar Moon’s most popular selections for you to enjoy in private. Please ask for details!

Can we meet with you to discuss our cake?
Absolutely!  Consultations for weddings are arranged once or twice per month from January to April. Sorry, due to high demand and limited time consultations are not available during the busy wedding season. I am totally capable of planning your cake via email or phone if you are unavailable during the consultation times.

Do you do “sheet cakes” or “kitchen cakes”?
No, sorry, I don’t. I prefer to focus on providing you with a tasty, high quality, work of art. If budget is your main concern, please be open and honest, we can work things out to accommodate most budgets!

What do you charge?
Each cake is individually priced based on the style, size and finishing touches added to the cake. You can expect your unique creation to start at $3 per serving with a minimum charge of $125. A average for smaller, special occasion cakes is around $125-150. Sculpted/3D cakes will start at $200. Please note that due to the care and attention given to my cakes – small cakes will typically cost more per serving than a larger cake. Cupcakes start at $2 and cookies average $3.00-$6.00 depending on size and packaging options (minimum orders apply).

A NOTE FOR CHARACTER CAKES:
All licensed characters, shaped cake pans, candy moulds, Cake Top! ™ Edible Cake Decorations and cookie cutters are for consumer home use only. Stores/shops cannot make cakes, cookies or candies from licensed products and sell them to consumers. These "mould making items" are strictly prohibited for any type of commercial use since the licensor has neither the method to control the quality of the reproduction of the character nor the ability to earn royalties on sales of the "made" products. This applies to both baked and craft-type products. Free-hand or copies of character designs cannot be drawn or iced on top of a cake, cupcakes or cookies and sold for any type of commercial purpose. Once again, the licensor cannot control the quality and is not earning a royalty on product created around their characters. Generally, creating any type of image that looks like a licensed character that is sold for commercial purposes is prohibited unless there is specific licensing agreement with the licensor for that product and royalties are paid each time the product is sold.
